The region is primarily mountainous with rich green valleys hugging lofty volcanic peaks, many of which surround the capital of province Bandung.  West Java surrounds the nation’s capital of Jakarta on three sides and good roads provide links to most of the province, passing through rugged mountains, iridescent paddy fields and along pastoral stretches of palm fringed coastline. There are a number of popular resorts on the western and southern coasts.

Jakarta, the capital of Indonesian Republic located on the northwestern coast of Java Island. Besides playing the role as political and economic hub of Indonesia, its the land of diversity in the culture, attractions, festivals and cuisine. This town is the seat of the once mighty Javanese Empire of Mataram, Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat. Yogyakarta is one of the supreme cultural centers of Java. Full Gamelan orchestras keep alive the rhythms the past, classical Javanese dances entrance with visions of beauty, shadows come to life in the stories of the wayang kulit.
